Montignac diet tailored to children again unleashes controversy (I)
This author has spent years defending a type of food to lose weight. Some specialists point out their mistakes and criticize their nutritional value
On the eve of National Food Day, which takes place May 28-Michel Montignac is back to blow the controversy. The diet that bears his name, mainly based on the measurement of glycemic index of foods is not well taken up by much of the scientific community. However, his books sold worldwide. During his visit to Spain has presented a new title which is intended to "prevent and combat obesity in children.
'In the last century, the prevalence of obesity has increased by 600%, in Spain or France, and up to 1,200% in the case of the USA This is especially important in
children, "said Dr. Montignac during a lecture at the Press Association of Madrid.
To prevent and treat childhood obesity, as in adulthood, this expert preaches the benefits of a diet that was created two decades ago and which claims to have lost 21 kilos. His thesis is based on two concepts: "the energy factor is not determinative weight" and "what matters is the quality aspect at the expense of quantity or, what is the same, the type of food."
A diet tailored to children
In the specific case of children, the protagonists of his new book, Montignac believes that excess weight is not a direct result of the amount of calories and sedentary lifestyles. "When I lived in the U.S. saw many obese children spent all day playing football or basketball in the park," he notes.
His work is aimed at health professionals but also parents. This highlights, for example, that eating carbohydrates with a high GI during pregnancy predisposes the child to obesity. And the same goes for artificial feeding. "Proteins are three times more present in cow's milk in breast milk," he says.
French thinker believes that milk is completely unnecessary out of breastfeeding. This belief, in countries like Spain, where this product is very present, causing quite a stir. "I have five children, perfectly healthy and have never drank milk that was not maternal. There is more to think about Japanese women who, despite not taking it, have very low levels of osteoporosis, compared to what happens in Finland where much milk is consumed, however, that disease is very present.
